My Parenting Philosophy

I've read a lot. I've talked to a lot of moms. I've watched quite a few seasons of Super Nanny. And I've decided to ignore all that and make my own rules. So Lucy, here's what I've decided.

-I will fill our house with lots of good books, and great music

-I will laugh more than I yell

-I will let you pick out your own clothes (as long as you are covered)

-I will not lie to you. Santa is not real. Your family is not "normal"

-You will learn that family has nothing to do with "blood lines"

-We are, and always will be poor. Get used to generic brands and hand me downs.

-I will not spank, slap hands, or swat anything. I will not let anyone else do this. I will not be talked out of this.

-I will let you play with pianos and drum sets and guitars before Barbies.

-I will let you scream just for fun

-I will fill our house with "Aunts" and "Uncles" who will let you play the drums with them, chase you, teach you strange words, and who will do your hair better than me.

-I will let you get a happy meal sometimes. One day, I'll even order fries and chocolate milk with it...not yet though.

-I will stalk you on whatever social media is popular when you are older. Deal with it.

-I will not tell you that you can be anything you want when you grow up. Some things are really unlikely (WNBA star) and some things are off limits (stripper). Such is life.

-I will help you and support you as you decide what you want to be when you grow up.

-I will probably always blog, facebook and tweet about your life. Someday the embarrassing pictures will stop...but not yet.

-You are not my top priority (but you are number 3).

-I will suck as a mom 75% of the time, but you'll never know, because I'm the only mom you've got! HA!
