I was trying to make a business card, but kept getting stumped on the "job title" part. What am I? What do I do? I ended up with this:
Here are the "things" I do:
Stay at home Mom (basically, the one consistent day a week I go off to work, has been dubbed "Tuesdays with Grandpa" a tradition my father started before I ever got a job as a way to spend time with my children without me.)
Administrative Assistant at Keller Park Church. Which is more like a community center. I help run the boring behind the scenes stuff, but don't actually attend church there. My best friend Carrie works and attends there and it's the best part of my job. We have offices that share a wall and often are caught google chatting with each other and occasionally yelling back and forth. I love the boring stuff. This is my left brain job. I like being the left brainer in an office full of right brainers. They create. I set up. They do.
Children's Director at Redeemer Missionary Church. This is my church. This is where my kids know how to get from the preschool classroom to the secret baptistry behind the screen because we're at the church so much. This is where my kids will climb over pews while dad vacuums the sanctuary on a Saturday. I manage the Children's Ministry, which is a great partnership between my left and right brains. I get to do the boring copies and scheduling but also create events and make up curriculum. I really enjoy this job and am blessed to be able to do most of it with my children by my side.
Children's Director for the Missionary Church, North Central District. This is the job title I pull out if I need a little extra "Oh!" from people. It's a new one I've taken on, but I'm excited about the possibilities. I'm in charge of putting on one training event a year, and being available to all the churches for help and support.
And then there's all the "little" things...
3DYC is a youth conference I've helped plan and run the past few years. It's been a great way for me to learn how to run a large event. And I love Kathy.
Prairie Camp Board. I have been going to Prairie Camp since I was a small child, and worked there for many summers in lots of different ways. Now I am a grown up in the boring board meetings.
PTO President for Monger Elementary School. Sometimes I just think about how I used to be an actual punk kid, with spikey pink hair and converse, listening to loud screamo music in my '89 Dodge Raider, and now I have 2 kids and run a PTO. I wonder if a punk show would be a good fundraiser...
So that's what I do. I do "things". I'm a doer of "things".
